As a parent myself, I wanted the same for my children. Lily after her own few years of coaxing, now loves being in the water by herself. Landon just turned one and I wasn’t sure how to make him feel comfortable either, attempting to juggle both kids at the same time. Thankfully, I had a great solution to help me!
SwimWays Baby Spring Float Activity Center was the perfect solution to helping Landon become comfortable in the water and a great safety tool as well. In fact, SwimWays is an industry leader in helping children learn to swim and promoting water safety as evident by Swimways founding this day! It is a National Parenting Center Seal of Approval Award winner as well as a soft mesh seat for durability and comfort for Landon to sit in. The safety valves and dual air chambers enhance security and it’s even easy to store and fold into a flat little compact circle for easy portability from your car to the pool thanks to it’s easy carry bag!
Here are a few ways I was able to help Landon make his first experience in the pool fun and safe!
1. Focus On the Positive – Make sure that your keeping swimming and time in the water looking and sounding like fun! Introduce fun games and activities to help build their confidence and trust in the pool. Use pool toys or other fun props to make the pool more interesting! You can also try games like “red, light or green light” to get them moving in the water. With games, their minds are more focused on playing the game rather than being uncomfortable. For Landon, I was able to keep him distracted with the adorable toys that were on his float. He loved the Octopus that could spin around and it kept his mind off that he was actually in a pool and more enjoying a new toy that was right in front of him!
2. Make It A Regular Activity – If you want to make swimming feel like second nature, it’s simple. Go as often as you can! the more time you spend around the pool, the more likely they will start to become comfortable and normal to be around the water. Consider having your little one practice their swimming in the bath tub too! You can even turn pool time into family time to make it something that the entire family can enjoy!
3. Practice Safety – One of the biggest rules about keeping it not only fun but safe for new swimmers is the obvious, never leave your child unattended, especially if they are new swimmers. Make sure that your child doesn’t run around the pool, has proper swimming attire and as as floating devices like SwimWays Baby Canopy Floats!

I totally agree that it's important for kids to learn how to swim. Though, we haven't been as consistent about it as we should. I guess it's time to get back on that!

My older two girls have been taking swimming lessons. They are more comfortable in the water. We have yet to take out our pool in the backyard. We'll definitely so it lots of times this summer.

I remember doing stuff like this when the kids were younger. Now they are much older and love swimming. I think it's great to start young to keep them safe with pools!

I agree that kids should feel comfortable around the water and that they should learn how to swim. We aren't always around a pool so I feel bad that my kids haven't gotten to the point of learning. However they love water and we do use an outdoor kid pool that they 'swim' in. This float looks awesome for little ones. I have seen similar ones, but this one looks like it would hold up much better and last longer! I have a one year old and we will be swimming at least once or twice this summer. I will look into buying this!

True, at the start my son was not comfortable with the pool, but we made it regular practise and a fun time for him and now after about a year of regularity, he loves his pool time.

Definitely the first thing is it HAS to be a positive experience. Too many kids are afraid of the water these days. All the fun floats really help with that fear!
Rachel Wong says
I think my experience with water stemmed from the same parental mindset. While I'm still a novice at swimming myself, I think having an experience with water and learning to not be afraid of it is important.

It's definitely very important for kids to learn to swim, but safety is also key. These are some really great tips!

My eldest is not an expert swimmer but at least she can carry herself in the water. No fear. We have to work on the youngest. And both of them need to be trained.
We have been bringing toys for them whenever we go swimming and they really enjoy it. Then other kids would flock to us because we're the only ones with toys. haha

First of all I want to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I’ve had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out.
I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be wasted just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any suggestions or hints? Kudos!

Howdy superb website! Does running a blog such as this take a great deal of work?
I’ve very little knowledge of coding but I was hoping to start my own blog in the near future.
Anyhow, should you have any recommendations or techniques for new blog owners please
