I admit, self care wasn’t always my strong suit. I would always put everyone else before me, especially my family. Work was as just as high of a priority until I really started to get sick, really sick and feel terrible. Why was I trying so hard to make everyone happy and taken care of when I really need to put me first so I’m able to be there when they need me?! It was time that I share a few reasons why you really need to take self care seriously, so here are my 4 top tips!
For me, one of the biggest things of self care is refocusing. You could working on a task for hours, studying or cramming for a huge test which can really bring you down. I take little breaks to help clear my head and sharpen my attention. These breaks can just be simple walking around with my son, grabbing a snack or just having a new chance of scenery. Coffee run to the rescue!
Of course stress is a natural part of life, the small amounts can be a good source of motivation, constant stress and more. Making sure to take care of ourselves can help prevent the stress for completely taking over our every move. It’s a game changer my friend.
When you learn how to say “no” to things that over-extend you and start making time for things that matter more, you slow life down in a wonderful way. This brings your goals into sharper focus and helps you to concentrate on what you are doing. This really helped me work smarter not harder which is key!

I feel when you are good to yourself, you may think you’re being selfish. However, self-care really gives you the resources you need to be compassionate towards others as well. I remember when I was able to have a bit of self cafe; aka getting my nails done and while I was going to get a pick me up at a coffee shop, I was in such a good mood that I paid for the person behind me. #PayItForward I always say.
