When was the last time you set an alarm to go off at 5am? One of the most popular questions I get asked is how can I become a morning person? Truth be told, I’ve always been one to get up in the am. While yes I love my sleep, I also love getting things done and being productive.
Did you know that having a morning routine can actually be better for your health? For those of you that need a morning routine to help become more productive, I have a few tips to help you!
One of the biggest ways to become a morning person is planing ahead. I personally start my day with work out so I place my work out clothes near my bed so it’s the first thing I put on when I wake up. I also have a water bottle ready to go grab as well. When you plan ahead in a groggy state, this will help you grab what you need.
Think of a new wake up time and gradually work towards it. If you want to get up at 7am but keep waking up at 8, gradually set your clock for 15 minutes prior. As the week goes on, move your clock down in 15 minute increments until the new time goal is reached.
Get Enough Sleep
It may seem obvious, but getting those recommended seven to nine hours will make getting up earlier easier. Pro tip? Keep the laptop and other work out of the bed to sleep soundly.
Begin A Gratitude Journal
If working out is not a way to start your morning, try journaling, specifically gratitude journaling. This is a great way to begin your morning to write down what you are grateful for on a positive note.
Enjoy Your Breakfast
With anything new and you’ve successfully been able to wake up earlier as a goal for a week reward yourself for a great job! Of course, this is a new routine you want to stick with so make sure that its a small success you can enjoy. This could be a new Starbucks drink, a warm bubble bath, an extra hour of your show. Before you know it, becoming a morning person wasn’t that hard!
