If you’re new around here, every year I share a letter to my child reminiscing about the last 12 months together.
Today you are THREE! What a year it’s been my little man on how much you’ve grown, learned and come into your own. I love watching you explore and learn has been such a highlight of my life. This year has been a big transitional one for you as you are exploring the world around you in such a big way.
Right after you turned two we enrolled you in pre-k a few days a week. You are SO smart! You already know all of your colors, can count to ten and we’re working on writing your name. You love making friends with your classmates, helping the teacher pass out snacks and enjoy going out on the playground to go down the slide as many times as you can. Your teacher praise your attention to detail, your big smile and your effort to keep trying to potty train yourself.
Right now you are still into cars. We have a neighbor that has an electric car that you adore riding because I think it makes you think you are a Nascar rider. You must get it from your Mom who also loves fast cars! You also have a ton of matchbox cars that you can play for hours at a time. We think you might be an engineer when you get older because you love taking all the cars apart and try to put them back together. You’re fascinated by the wheels and how they move the car.
You also love to eat. They say that boys love to eat and eat and eat and eat and eat! You tend to crush a few waffles around 6am, ask for a yogurt or a snack around 9 or 9:30 and then eat a large lunch of your favorite Mac and Cheese, carrots and broccoli. You take such a great nap in the afternoon, giving mommy a bit of a break from you constantly asking for more snacks or ‘cheese sticks’.
You’ve been our little health warrior since week 3 of knowing you had a dairy allergy. Thankfully you’ve outgrown that but now we’re onto all the indoor and outdoor allergies including mold, dandruff, dust, dog and cat saliva and a multitude of outdoor pollen and ragweed/grass. Thankfully we’ve been taking you to an allergist every 6 months to see how you’ve been progressing ( not the best but that’s ok ) and giving you Claritin/Zyrtec daily for the spring/summer/fall seasons. You’re a champ in taking it so thanks for making that easy on us. You’ve had a few intense ear infections the last few months so we’re debating on tubes at this point if it continues. Thanks for keeping us on our toes buddy.
We all know the saying that little boys love their Mama’s and you really are the definition of that. I love your morning cuddles, the way you breathe on my face when you sleep next to me or your ‘big hug and big kiss’ expectation every time we put you down for a nap or to bed. You ask for extra snuggles or hugs when you get upset or just need some extra love. I love when you grab my hand when we’re on a walk and hold on tight. We’re “BEST FWENDS” ’till the end my little buddy.
I know this birthday isn’t the big Paw Patrol theme you’ve been asking for month after month but because we’re stuck inside thanks to this pandemic, this one will be one we share with you year after year. You’re doing such a great job trying to understand why we can’t go visit friends or family right now, why we’re trying to keep your safe but most importantly, why we’re trying to keep you healthy.
We can’t wait to see what this year brings you little man! Happy third birthday!
