If your kids are like mine, they come home from school or playing outside and they immediately go the pantry or refrigerator for an after-school snack. Despite eating a big breakfast, lunch AND snack only a few hours ago, they somehow seem to be famished for something else to enjoy.
After school snacks can really tide your kids over for a while. If they eat filling foods or overeat, they aren’t hungry for dinner ( and well know how that ends up ). Instead, afternoon snacks with a combination of fiber and protein are great to not only satisfy their hunger.
As a kid I used to love to make stacks of crackers with some of my favorite toppings like cheese or peanut butter and jelly. Both of my children love adding their own toppings but they also love to grab these and eat crackers with nothing on them. Simply grab the box and start eating is how it works in our household ha.
I found these delicious Nut-Thins crackers at my local Walmart. Not only are they made with rice flour and almonds but they also have the perfect amount of salt on them. I could easily get a little crazy and eat them by the handful and with only 130 calories for 16 crackers, I don’t feel guilty ( and neither do my kids ) about eating so many! Mom and Toddler win. Plus, they’re gluten free which we enjoy because many of our friends are now developing a gluten allergy so we know they are safe for everyone to eat together if we have them over after school. They even have additional flavors of Nut-Thins that are available such as Cheddar, Smokehouse or Pecan! YUM!
