It’s no secret that working from home, cooking meals, attempting to manage daily tasks and stay sane throughout this pandemic, has taken a toll not only on ourselves as Mom’s but the rest of our family members as well. One of the things we have noticed after a long day of playing outside, homework, and playing games, our kids need time to wind down for bed. Did you know that having a good bedtime routine can be the difference between a good night’s sleep or a restless night? Personally, we all need as much sleep as we can get at the moment which is why we’ve incorporated these helpful tips.
We try not to rush our bedtime routine and looking at the time really helps us. About a half-hour or 45 minutes before our bedtime is to begin, we draw the kids a warm bath. This helps immensely to our children, who love playing outside but also enjoy rinsing the dirt and grime from the day.
We’ve tried several washes for our kids but Honest Truly Calming Shampoo + Body Wash is a personal favorite. Landon has extremely sensitive skin, so reading the ingredients on the back of body washes and shampoos are the first thing I do. I found Truly Calming Lavender Shampoo + Body Wash on Costco.comCostco.com and loved seeing that it is made without parabens or sulfates. It’s a mild 2 in 1 formula to help clean the entire body from head to toe, leaving their skin moisturized and hair soft and clean. I also appreciate that it has a blend of lavender essential oils and chamomile to keep them feeling calm and refreshed after their bath is over.
3. Breathable Pajamas
Raise your hand if your kids always complain they are hot, especially with the warmer months approaching. I notice my kids have started becoming more irritable so I found breathable pajamas that don’t overheat them at night. Not only are they staying cool and comfortable, but also getting the rest they need.
After we brush our teeth and put on our cozy pajamas, we cuddle in close in my bed and read 2 books. This is one of my favorite things to do during a long day. We discuss the books that we read, sing one last song, and then it’s lights out with a quick kiss goodnight.
I know what you’re thinking. Does our bedtime routine look like this all the time? Sadly no, but we realized when we do have some sort of routine like this in place, it helps all of us to get the proper night sleep and feel our best the next morning.
